Services

Chambers County Public Hospital District #1 is a community owned (political subdivision) and operated healthcare delivery system; we answer to those we are privileged to serve. As such, we are committed to providing for the needs of all the citizens and residents of the the District, no matter the race, ethnicity or economic circumstances of those who allow us to be of service.

Bayside Community Hospital

The anchor of our healthcare delivery system, Bayside Community Hospital has been in continuous operation for over 56 years, providing for the general acute needs of Central Chambers County and surrounding communities. Recognized by the Texas Rural Association in 2002 with the “Community that Cares” award, and again in 2005 by the Texas Medical Foundation with the “Award of Excellence in Healthcare Quality Improvement,” Bayside continues its rich history and tradition. Bayside offers the only state designated Trauma Center (Emergency Room) in Chambers County, along with a wide range of inpatient and outpatient programs and ancillary services including laboratory and radiology offerings, all detailed under the Hospital icon of this website.

Bayside Clinic

Opened in 1996, and merged with the Andres Medical Clinic in 2003, Bayside Clinic is the organization’s response to insuring the availability of primary care services in and for the area. By establishing this operation here in our community, Bayside has created first-class quarters for existing primary care providers, as well as a location to which to recruit new providers as need and demand dictate. Additionally, the establishment of Bayside Clinic allows the organization to pursue public and private grants, such as the SDI Program (discussed below), to support the delivery of primary care. As discussed under the Clinic icon of this website, Bayside Clinic offers the full range of primary care capabilities, from prenatal to geriatric services.

West Chambers Medical Clinic

Recognizing a need and opportunity, Bayside opened the West Chambers Medical Clinic in 2005 in collaboration with Chambers County the week after Hurricane Rita. The West Chambers operations provide the same level and quality of services as Bayside Clinic in a location convenient to the West Chambers communities. This insures the availability of primary care services to a larger population, extending the reach of the organization, and the opportunity to grow the entire organization to insure long-term viability. Bayside remains committed to the establishment of a full-time operation in West Chambers County with plans for the eventual development of an independent home for the Clinic with its own staffing.

Programs

Beyond just the direct delivery of health care services, Bayside engages in and provides a wide variety of programs for the benefit of the community.

SDI/Outreach Programs

Primarily funded through state and federal grants, the SDI program at Bayside Clinic can provide a medical home for those who do not have health care insurance coverage or access to regular primary care services. Services can include regular office visits, laboratory and radiology testing, as well as some access to prescription drugs. There are requirements to participate in the program, so call ahead to (409) 267-4126 ext 61 and schedule an appointment with Veronica Campa to see if you qualify.

The Outreach Program at Bayside can also assist with identifying other state and federal programs that may be available to the applicant, and:

  • Pharmacy Assistance, through participation in direct-from-the-manufacturer programs, for those who qualify
  • Bayside Assistance programs, for inpatient and outpatient programs not covered by the SDI Program, based on need and/or financial circumstance.

Women’s Health Day

Begun in 2003 to address an unmet need in the community, Bayside’s Women’s Health Day focuses on providing a specific set of services and tests for the Women of our communities that had not been regularly available in the community to that point. Growing rapidly in popularity, this program is now a monthly function of the organization in partnership with “The Rose” of Houston, providing mammography screening services as well as other tests to identify any issues or areas of concern. Contact Misty DeHoyos at (409) 267-3143 ext 257 for additional information or to schedule your appointment.

Community Clinic

The Community Clinic program was established in 2001 as a result of recognizing that Chambers County can be a bit spread out. The program provides the opportunity for those who do not have routine access to transportation to see a primary care provider closer to home. The Community Clinic program runs three times a year: in the Spring to check on allergies; the Summer, to help with those back-to-school physicals and shots; and Fall, to make sure everybody who wants one gets a flu shot. From the very tip of the County in Smith Point to our northern boundaries in Wallisville, there’s sure to be a Community Clinic close to you in the near future. Check our Community Calendar on this website for dates and locations.

Annual Health Fair

Every year around the latter part of October, Bayside hosts its annual Health Fair. The Health Fair provides a variety of services, not the least of which is the opportunity to get a flu shot at a reduced cost. The Health Fair also provides blood glucose and cholesterol screens, as well as height, weight and blood pressure checks. There is always a significant amount of health education material available, and many other area health care providers and local institutions participate, providing valuable information and services. You can already find the date for this year’s health fair in our Community Calendar and be sure to keep an eye on our local newspaper, The Progress, for additional information as the time draws near.

GatorFest

As a conscientious corporate citizen, Bayside, in collaboration with the Anahuac Volunteer EMS, is proud to be the “First Aid” provider at and for GatorFest. Bayside is responsible for staffing and supplying the First Aid tent before during and after the festival hours to help keep the guests and visitors to our community comfortable. So whether it’s just to sit down and cool off for a few moments or a more emergent need, Bayside has clinical and support staff on hand the entire time to make your visit to our community’s festival as safe as it will be enjoyable.

Wellness Programs

Beginning in 2007, Bayside now engages in providing Wellness programs for the improvement of the community’s overall health and well-being. The first offering in this program is weekly Aerobics classes, available three times a week. As theses classes grow and fill, Bayside is committed to identifying, developing and offering additional classes as well as other offerings to promote community wellness for those who call Chambers County home.
