Bayside Community Hospital Laboratory has the latest, state-of-the-art instruments and fully computerized system that gives the results in minutes. Our laboratory is staffed with certified Medical Technologists who have Bachelor’s Degree and are highly skilled in different aspects of the laboratory such as Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Banking and Clinical Microscopy. The laboratory is subject to the standards required by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). We participate in American Proficiency Testing to ensure the accuracy of our test results. The lab also participates in a hospital-wide Quality Assurance program. Our department is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide all in-house and Emergency medical needs. We also provide Outpatient testing needs for our Community.

Our most common tests and their use are: Comprehensive Metabolic Profile, which checks for basically everything (Liver, Kidneys, Blood Sugar, electrolytes); Basic Metabolic Profile (BMP); Prothrombin Time (PT), the Coumadin Check standard, needs to be done at least twice a month and checks how thin the blood is for people who uses blood thinners; Lipid Panel, checks for Cholesterol and how prone you are for heart problems; Thyroid Profile; Hemoglobin A1C, used to check for Diabetes; Liver Function Tests (LFT); Complete Blood Count (CBC), that checks for Anemia, or infection; and Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA).
